Land Dispute Turns Violent in Wazirabad: Man Severely Injured in Shooting
A serious incident unfolded in Wazirabad involving a long-standing land dispute that turned violent, leaving a young man severely injured. The attackers, under the false pretense of discussing a peaceful resolution, lured the victims to a location and then opened fire. The victim, identified as Ibn Hassan, was critically injured and later transferred to a hospital in Lahore due to his grave condition. The attackers managed to flee the scene after the shooting.
According to local reports, the family of the injured man had been involved in a property dispute with Saqib Ali Bhutta and others. On the day of the incident, the attackers invited the victims, pretending to seek a reconciliation over the land conflict. However, when the victims arrived at the agreed location, they were ambushed.
The victim’s wife, Farhnaz Bibi, filed a formal complaint at Police Station City Wazirabad, stating that she, her husband Ibn Hassan, and their children had gone to meet Saqib Ali Bhutta and other individuals involved in the land dispute. The meeting took place near a rent-a-car office in front of Akhnor Marriage Hall on Sialkot Road, Wazirabad. They had expected the meeting to resolve their ongoing issues peacefully. Instead, the attackers, armed with firearms, launched a violent assault.
Farhnaz detailed that when they arrived at the location, they were confronted by Saqib Ali Bhutta, Ajmal, Yasin, and several other armed individuals. Saqib Ali, armed with a pistol, aimed at Ibn Hassan and fired with the intent to kill. The bullet struck Ibn Hassan in the leg, causing him to collapse to the ground. Following this, another attacker, Ajmal alias Nanha, fired again at the fallen Ibn Hassan with the same intention of taking his life.
Amid the chaos, the attackers continued to fire indiscriminately and fled the scene, leaving the family traumatized and fearing for their lives. Before fleeing, the attackers shouted threats, warning the victims that they would face worse consequences if they continued pursuing legal action over the land dispute.
The cause of the attack traces back to a disagreement over a land contract. Farhnaz Bibi and her husband had been in a dispute with Saqib Ali Bhutta over the division and lease of land. Farhnaz wished to sell her share of the property, which apparently triggered the violent response from the other party. According to Farhnaz, the attackers had previously discussed plans to harm them, as witnessed by locals.
The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 324, 109, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code. These sections pertain to attempted murder, unlawful assembly, and criminal conspiracy. The police are conducting an investigation to locate and arrest the attackers, who are currently at large.
The victim's family has urged the authorities to take swift action to ensure their safety, as they fear for their lives following the threats. The community has also expressed concern over the growing tension in the area due to the dispute and the resulting violence.
In light of this incident, the family hopes for justice and protection from further harm. Meanwhile, the local law enforcement agency has vowed to investigate thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
