Medical Store Owner’s Home Robbed of 6 Million Rupees
Robbery incidents are on the rise in Ali Pur Chattha, with thieves carrying out their crimes openly while the police remain ineffective. In the latest incident, a medical store owner, Muhammad Imran, faced a major loss when three unidentified robbers entered his home last night through a screen door, held his family at gunpoint, and stole over 6 million rupees' worth of valuables. The stolen items included 16 tolas of gold jewelry, cash in dollars, expensive fabrics, valuable mobile phones, and a motorcycle. After the robbery, the culprits locked the family in a room before fleeing the scene. Forensic teams have since gathered evidence from the location.
Police’s Underreporting Sparks Protest
Following the incident, the police recorded an FIR but reportedly downplayed the loss, listing only 6 tolas of jewelry worth 800,000 rupees, a motorcycle worth 150,000 rupees, and cash worth 400,000 rupees to minimize the severity of the case. The affected family expressed outrage over this underreporting. In response to their protest, SHO Mohsin Jhatol assured them that all details of their losses would be revised in the FIR.
Concerns Over Rising Robberies and Police Inaction
In addition to this case, there was another recent robbery at gunpoint at a medical store in Rasul Nagar, the CCTV footage of which is now circulating on social media. Just a few months ago, another major burglary took place in Mohalla Tanki Wala, where millions were stolen from Syed Zaki ul Hassan’s home. Residents have also highlighted unresolved cases, including three unsolved murders, the disappearance of a 10-year-old student, and numerous thefts.
Widespread Frustration With Police Corruption and Inefficiency
Reports indicate that corruption within the Ali Pur Chattha police has become rampant, with inefficiency hampering the pursuit of justice. Social and public groups have called on the IG of Punjab to urgently intervene and address the dire law and order situation in the area, where criminals continue to operate unchecked.
