Energy Minister Urged to Take Action Against GEPCO's Mismanagement
A rising tide of frustration is sweeping through the community as residents demand action against the mismanagement and illegal practices in their local electricity system. Safety violations and corruption have sparked widespread protests for change.
Call for Accountability in Dangerous Electricity Systems
Wazirabad (Correspondent): Citizens are urging Energy Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and GEPCO CEO Jam Ayub to address the chaos in the GEPCO subdivision No. 2 area. Illegal electricity connections, dangerously long cables, and violations of safety regulations have created life-threatening situations. Social and civic groups have demanded immediate action to safeguard lives and reduce departmental losses caused by irresponsible practices.
Allegations Against the SDO
Local residents shared with reporters that ever since SDO Mirza Irfan took charge of the subdivision, inefficiency and misconduct have become rampant. He allegedly delays even legitimate customer requests, leaving residents frustrated for days. Known for obstructing routine tasks, the SDO has damaged the department's credibility by imposing inflated bills and unnecessary detection charges to falsely show performance. Despite repeated complaints and public protests, no action has been taken to remove him from his position.Proliferation of Illegal Connections
Under the SDO's tenure, illegal connections have surged. Electricity has been extended to prohibited areas through unauthorized means, blatantly violating departmental policies. These unsafe practices include installing cables that dangerously pass over rooftops and sometimes hang so low they touch the ground, posing severe risks to lives and property.Citizens Demand Immediate Action
Community representatives have appealed to Energy Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and GEPCO CEO Jam Ayub to personally inspect the subdivision. They have demanded accountability for the SDO, whose actions are causing significant harm to both residents and the department. Immediate measures are required to rectify the unsafe systems and prevent further losses to the organization. Citizens are growing increasingly concerned, emphasizing that neglecting these issues may lead to irreversible damage or accidents.
Authorities are urged to act decisively, prioritize public safety, and restore order in Wazirabad's electricity systems.
