Sugar Awareness on World Diabetes Day in Pakistan

On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, November 14, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Diabetes Specialist Dr. Noman Rafique Rajput spoke to the media and highlighted the alarming rise of diabetes in Pakistan. He mentioned that currently, over 35 million adults and millions of children in Pakistan are affected by this disease. Dr. Noman also pointed out that he had previously written three books to raise awareness about diabetes, emphasizing that saving lives is a noble mission and spreading awareness is a great reward.

Plans for an Advanced Diabetes Center

Dr. Noman Rafique Rajput shared his plans to establish a modern, advanced diabetes center in the district of Wazirabad soon. This center will provide better treatment and awareness for those suffering from diabetes. He also suggested forming committees at both the city and national levels to tackle the issue of diabetes more effectively.

Raising Public Awareness

Dr. Noman mentioned that the rise in diabetes cases can largely be attributed to obesity, excessive consumption of fast food, sugary foods, lack of exercise, and sedentary lifestyles. Additionally, genetic and hereditary factors also contribute significantly to the growing problem in Pakistan. He called on civil society to organize awareness seminars in schools, colleges, and communities in Wazirabad and other cities to educate people about the prevention of diabetes.

Final Thoughts

Dr. Noman also expressed his intention to write a letter to the President of Pakistan, urging the government to take stronger measures to address this growing health crisis. His letter would include suggestions for prevention and ways to collaborate in combating diabetes in the country.
