Imran Khan Seeks Supreme Court's Help to Investigate Alleged Suppression of PTI

Imran Khan has approached the Supreme Court, seeking a judicial commission to investigate the alleged targeting of PTI workers by state authorities. The petition calls for protection of fundamental rights and fairness in the political process.

Imran Khan Approaches Supreme Court

On Thursday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan filed a petition with the Supreme Court, seeking the formation of a judicial commission. The commission would investigate the alleged suppression and targeting of PTI workers and leaders by state authorities, reportedly in collusion with "unknown persons."

Call for Accountability and Transparency

The petition, filed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, urges the court to create a commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, with the involvement of senior judges Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Munib Akhtar. The report from Dawn also says: the commission is expected to probe political and non-political interference in state functions and examine violations of constitutional oaths by state officials. The petition also seeks to identify those responsible for such actions.

Protection of Citizens' Fundamental Rights

One of the key points in the petition is the protection of citizens' fundamental rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution. PTI's petition asks the Supreme Court to ensure the right to life, freedom of assembly, expression, movement, and fair judicial redress. These basic rights should be safeguarded, especially in light of recent events where political gatherings and peaceful protests have been hindered.

Challenges with Political Gatherings and Arrests

The petition also addresses the denial of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for PTI’s upcoming political gatherings, specifically the event planned for November 24. Furthermore, PTI has requested the court to impose restrictions on the indiscriminate use of arrests by the state and regulate the registration of FIRs against PTI workers involved in peaceful protests.

PTI's Fight for Justice and Fairness

The PTI’s legal battle seeks not only justice but also fairness in the application of the law. The petition emphasizes that arrests should not occur without prior court approval, ensuring that citizens' rights are upheld while the legal process is followed properly.
