U.S. Congress Demands Imran Khan’s Release & Fair Elections in Pakistan!

U.S. Congress members have written to President Biden, urging him to push for Imran Khan’s release and demand fairness in Pakistan’s upcoming elections, highlighting concerns about human rights violations and political manipulation.

U.S. Congress Members Write Another Letter to President Biden for Imran Khan's Release

U.S. Congress members have written another letter to President Biden, demanding the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan and other party leaders.

Concerns Over Continued Detention of Imran Khan

In the letter, 46 members of Congress expressed concerns about the continued detention of the popular leader. They stated that efforts had been made to keep PTI away from the upcoming elections in February. The Congress members expect the U.S. to use its influence in Pakistan to help restore democracy.

Human Rights Violations and Electoral Concerns

The letter also highlighted the ongoing human rights violations and restrictions on civil liberties in Pakistan, particularly after the general elections on February 8, 2024. The Congress members urged the U.S. government to reconsider its policies regarding Pakistan, in line with Resolution No. 901 passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.

Allegations of Election Manipulation and Media Restrictions

The letter also accused the Pakistani government of manipulating election results and using its influence to defeat the popular PTI. It mentioned that the government had imposed social media bans to stop PTI’s campaign and arrested the party’s leaders, including Imran Khan. The Congress members expressed concern that the U.S. Embassy had not shown any effort on this matter.

Global Pressure for Democracy and Human Rights in Pakistan

This letter reflects global concern over the political situation in Pakistan and emphasizes the importance of supporting democratic processes and human rights. By raising these issues, the letter calls for the U.S. government to exert pressure on Pakistan to protect civil liberties and ensure free and fair elections. It also indicates the growing international pressure on Pakistan to improve its political environment, hoping that the U.S. will use its influence to help restore democracy.
